Ing Chi, is a body, mind, spirit form of meditation.  I developed the style as a result of combining my training as
a journey going deeper within to discover the magic and wonderment of my higher sense of self and enlightenment
and my connection to everything within the universe.
The ing means, action of, Chi is one’s energy flow.  Ing Chi, therefore is meant to mean, One’s body, mind and
spiritual flow of energy. The name Isshin Ryū means, “One heart /mind method “its roots come from three older
styles of Karate, Shorin-ryū, Gojū-ryū, and Kobudō.  I continue to practice the original style, taught to me by my
Sensei, Dennis Sammartino, as was taught to him by his Sensei Dale Jenkins, by way of Sensei Don Nagle, by way
of the Master and Founder of the Isshin Ryū style, Shihan Tatsuo Shimabuku.
What I have done is to change my focus, intention and as a result I have slowed down the movements dramatically
so that when practiced this style looks and feels very similar to Tai Chi (Supreme Ultimate Fist) style, and flow
of movement. I saw no reason to learn a completely different style, when all I needed and want was already in the
style of Isshin Ryū I was already practicing.  Sensei use to say, “There are many paths to the same mountain top”,
so I chose this path, or this path chose me.  I teach , this new style Ing Chi, to students who come to me empty
and want to learn a  more dynamic breathing technique, a wider deeper stance, with a slower more fluid open hand
movement and attitude of focus.
What I mean by attitude of focus in the intention of the movement is: In formal martial art training the
intention of my movements is to block and then counter in self defense with various hand and feet punches and
kicks with a fast snapping small circle movement and a powerful penetrating push/pull combination of techniques.
It all starts with a strong balanced dachi (stance) we then harness the earth’s energy up through the legs, then to
and through the hip, while at the same time we use the power to generate speed out the arm, wrist, a soft fist, to
the top two knuckles and then into and projecting through a point on an opponent’s body in a very fast rising punch
that snaps or pops like the end of a whip where the fist is clinched hard for just that split second and then back
to a soften state .  The moves are practiced over and over again until you have muscle memory and the reaction
happens with less thinking; Mind of no mind, Mushin no shin.
The intention and movement within Ing Chi is not self defense, it is non combative, we are not blocking, punching
or kicking anything, we continue to harnesses the same energy of the earth and combine it with our own Chi
(energy). We then follow the same path, from the strong well balanced dachi, up the legs, out the hip and arms,
however it is no longer is a punch. We have no obstacle in our path that may be a resistance to our own flow and
natural Chi; rather we are practicing the Art of Allowing and The Art of Attracting. The body, mind and spirit
become one powerful magnet.  Our thoughts, feelings, emotions, become one with the flow and movement of our
body and the intention of the spirit, to receive and then send, happiness, joy, love, peace, empowerment with a
softer, slower, fluid like larger circle movement.  This energy is thought to grow like in a ball against the body and
rolled around with the arms, hands and legs and used in the form of healing for the self and or others we may have
in our hearts and mind that may need a form of healing.
By practicing, Mushin no Shin, using my body, and spirit as one, I can become more aware of my individuality, my
compassion, empathy, sensitivity to my consecutiveness with everything everywhere in the universe around me.
This energy flow, Chi, then becomes a pathway to The Source of All Love and Light, in a much more loving way.  I
feel even more empowered and even more powerful than I did before. When the student is ready the teacher
appears.  Perhaps my Sensei appeared to me in spirit and once again knew I was ready to learn. When we let go of
the past, it allows for the present which is our future. When one let’s go of another spirit we held onto because
we miss them in our heart so much it hurts, not only do we set them free, our cup becomes empty and in that void,
the universe comes in like an explosions and fills it and us with even more love to build our life with than we had
before.  The creation of the Universe was created in much the same way.

These are the 8 traditional kata / forms of Isshin Ryū.
Seisan- Tatsuo Shimabuku learned Seisan from his primary instructor, Chtoku Kyan. Previous to Kyan's
instruction, the Seisan form was a staple of local traditions.
Seiunchin-This kata was brought into Isshin Ryū from Shihan Shimabuku’s studies with the Gojū-ryū Ryū founder,
Shihan Miyagi.   The kata focuses on the stance "shiko-dachi", a low horse stance.
Naihanchi-Naihanchi comes to Isshin Ryū from studies with both Chtoku Kyan and Motoby Choki (a cousin of Kyan).
It is also considered one of the staples of Ryukyu Ti, and is prevalent in most forms of Karate. The Isshin Ryū
version is influenced heavily by the sparing (kumite) of Motobu, with the exception of the turned-in toes (Motobu
preferred the horse-riding stance with the toes in a neutral position).
Wansū-Also coming from Kyan, Wansū, has several iterations on the island of Ryukyu. Popular history has the kata
coming from a Chinese political visitor who, during his duties, taught his fighting method in the open.  Wansū is one
of two kata in Isshin Ryū which use the "zenkutsu dachi", a long, angled Seisan-type stance.
Chinto-As with most of the kata in Isshin Ryū, Chinto comes from the teaching of Shihan Kyan.
The kata differs from others in that its embusen is a line placed on a 45 degree angle. The footwork is indicative
of a slipping, deflecting, and a whipping, relaxed body motion. Some karate instructors consider the previously
learned forms of the system, Naihanchi and Wansu, to be preparatory and basic training forms, culminating in the
kata Chinto.
Kusanku-Of the eight kata in Isshin-Ryu, five come from the teaching of Chtoku Kyan. Kusanku is one of these.
Kusanku is often referred to as a "night-fighting" kata, or a form which teaches fighting at night. Kusanku is the
second of two kata which contain the zenkutsu – dachi in Isshin-Ryū.
Sunsu-This kata was designed by Shihan Shimabuku. It incorporates several movements from other kata in the
Isshin-Ryū syllabus, as well as from kata from other instructors, in addition to techniques and concepts
Shimabuku favored. It was used as a dojo kata and as a personal project of the founder, prior to the founding of
Isshin Ryū in 1956.
Sanchin-Coming from Miyagi Chojun, Sanchin has its origins in the Gojū-ryū Ryū system. Along with Seiunchin, this is
one of two Gojū-ryū katas in Isshin-Ryū. Previous to the instruction of Miyagi, the kata was practiced with open
hands, turns, and natural breathing methods. With the founding of Gojū-ryū, this form was practiced with closed
fists (a more traditional method on Okinawa), no turns, and a controlled, almost hard inhalation and exhalation.

I discovered ING when I wrote out the answer to the question “I am the happiness when …… “.
I love ING. I’m the happiness when I am with ING. ING is the love of my life, she is my soul, my purpose, my joy,
she fills me with emotional perfume that sets my spirit on fire and sing the song of my heart, energy abounds
throughout my every fabric, transformed into another place without time, my senses increase in there awareness,
empowered with creation and by the grace of love and light I too am a creator, so blessed to be alive with ING …
